Kelly Jo Wilkins, daughter of Lowell and Marcia (Barchinger) Wilkins, was born November 23, 1960 in Moorhead, Minnesota, and was baptized into the Lutheran Faith. She grew up in Morris, MN, and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church. She attended Morris Public Schools, graduating in 1979. On December 1, 1979, she was united in marriage to Kelly Ray Zimmerman at First Lutheran Church in Morris by Reverend Clifford Grindland. Following their marriage, the couple lived north of Chokio, where they farmed and raised their three children: Melissa, Jenny and Matt. In 1981, Kelly Jo began working at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio as the church secretary. She continued to work there until 2006, when she began her current position as secretary at the Chokio-Alberta Schools. She enjoyed working at the school and being with the kids each day.
Kelly Jo was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, where she had served as advisor to the Luther League Youth Group. She had also served as advisor for the Girl Scouts and the B.E.E.S. 4-H Club. She was a member of the Morris Women of Today, the Chokio Community Club and the Ladies Bowling League in Morris. She enjoyed bowling, camping, boating, traveling and working with various community service groups. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Kelly Jo died on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at her residence in rural Chokio. She lived to reach the age of 46 years.
She is survived by her husband: Kelly Zimmerman of Chokio; three children: Melissa Zimmerman of Fargo, ND, Jenny Zimmerman of Mitchell, SD and Matt Zimmerman of Chokio; her mother: Marcia Wilkins of Gilbert, AZ; four brothers: Kevin (Barbara) Wilkins of St. Paul, Steven Wilkins of Minneapolis, Richard Wilkins of Gilbert, AZ and Michael (Kathleen) Wilkins of Chandler, AZ. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents: Floyd and Millie Wilkins.
Pallbearers for the service are: Keith Thorstad, Dean Quackenbush, Tim Kampmeier, Doyle Anderson, Dan Walsh, Bob Yurczyk, John Meagher and Steve Powers. Honorary pallbearers are all of her friends in Women of Today. Julene Amborn will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
