Funeral services for Kevin David Backman of Blaine, Minnesota will be held Thurday, March 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Kevin David Backman, son of Edward and Denise (Gustafson) Backman was born on July 7, 1966 in Morris, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm near Kensington, Minnesota and graduated from Hoffman-Kensington High School in 1985. Kevin attended Willmar Technical College at Willmar, Minnesota receiving a degree in Ag. Business. He furthered his education, attending Moorhead State University in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he received his bachelor's degree in Technical Engineering. Kevin was united in marriage to Melanie Gulbrandson on May 27, 1995 at Nora Lutheran Church near Kensington, through this union three daughters were born. The couple made their home in Blaine, Minnesota, where Kevin worked for Marathon Petroleum at St. Paul Park.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, and a family game of kickball. He spent many hours caring for his yard, where he would often let his girls mow with him. But most of all, Kevin loved spending time with Melanie watching his daughters in their activities. He loved watching them play soccer, volleyball and softball. His girls will always remember "Dad's Cheering" over all others at their games.
Kevin died on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at his home, in Blaine, having reached the age of 45.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie and three daughters, Amber, Rachel and Megan Backman, all of Blaine, MN; his father, Edward (Sandra) Backman, Kensington, MN; three brothers, Mark (Jelene) Backman, and Kenneth (Carol) Backman, all of Hoffman, and Dennis (Tony Mills) Backman, Minneapolis, MN; four sisters, Karen (Dale) DeRung, Rice, MN, Bonnie Bosche, Moorhead, MN, Donna (John) Hammers, Hutchinson, MN and Becky (Blayne) Tonsfeldt, Moorhead, MN; one brother-in-law, Jeff Harstad, Donnelly, MN and many nieces and nephews. Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Denise and one sister, Linda Harstad.
