Kimberly Ann Gunderson

August 16, 1962 — June 11, 2024

Morris, MN

Kimberly Ann Gunderson (Gremmels) passed away peacefully at the age of 61 on June 11, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 16, 1962, Kim was the daughter of Floyd and Delores (Wachter) Nelson, both of whom preceded her in death. She joins in eternal rest her two brothers, Al Nelson and Michael Gremmels, as well as her beloved canine companions, Scandal and Smidgen, who were faithful companions throughout pivotal moments in her life.

Kim was an avid dog lover. She never met a dog she didn’t like and at gatherings would often be seen caring for and talking to the pets of friends and family members. Her commitment to the well-being of animals was evident to all who knew her. Her care and compassion wasn’t extended solely to her furry friends. She cared deeply for her grandma, aunts, mother, sisters, and brothers, often spending hours in profound conversations about history, politics, humanity, and more. As an avid reader, these conversations often centered on the latest book she had read. In fact, she spent countless hours reading and re-reading books to her mother in person and over the phone prior to her death in 2021.

Kimberly graduated from Montevideo Senior High School, where she excelled academically and made lifelong friends. She later pursued her passion for history, earning her degree from the University of Minnesota. Her education enriched her understanding of the world and fueled her intellectual curiosity throughout her life.

Kim is survived by her husband, Mark Gunderson, who was by her side until the end. She is also survived by her twin sister, Kris Gremmels, her sister Bonnie Nelson (Gremmels), and her brothers, Rick Gremmels, Sid Nelson, Jay Nelson, Rob Nelson, and Darren. Kim's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness and compassion.

A private family service will be held in August to honor Kimberly's life and legacy.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of the arrangements for Kimberly.
