Funeral services for Laura Carrington of Morris will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Todd Schneider will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery in Appleton, MN.
Laura Ann Stock, daughter of Willie and Marjorie (Heldt) Stock, was born August 25, 1946 in Appleton, Minnesota, where she grew up and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church. Laura attended and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1964. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota Morris, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. Laura taught in the Morris School District for the next 30 years, retiring in 1999 at the age of 52. On August 3, 1968, she was united in marriage to Thomas Carrington. To this union two children were born, Anna Rose and Matthew Thomas.
Laura was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she taught religion classes. She was very active in Politics all of her adult life and served as co-chair of the Republican Party and also served on the Morris School Board for many years. Laura was also a co-owner of the Stock Shoppe in Correll, MN with her four sisters. She enjoyed playing cards with her relatives at the family farm, dancing, reading, sewing, going antique shopping, traveling and shopping in general. She especially enjoyed going to all of the many activities and sports games of her children and grandchildren and spending quality time with them and all of her family. Laura was a very caring and giving person.
Laura died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to the age of 67 years, 8 months and 5 days.
She is survived by her husband: Thomas Carrington of Morris; two children: Anna (David) Vikander of Granite Falls and Matthew (Holly) Carrington of Morris; six grandchildren: Amber Syll, Ashley and Austin Vikander and Taylor, Meredith and Madison Carrington; one great-grandchild: Ayden Syll; four sisters: Catherine Thomas of Granite Falls, Mary (Mike) Block of Correll, Sarah Disinger (Jason Boonstra) of Appleton and Cora (Bryan) Haugen of Waseca; four brothers: James (Kim) Stock of Morris, William (Lila) Stock of Dawson, John (Connie) Stock of Correll and Theodore Stock (Belinda Field) of Waseca and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws: Lawrence and Florence Carrington.
