Funeral services for LaVern Kenneth Asmus of St. Cloud, formerly of Morris will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:00 PM Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, MN. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 to 1:00 PM at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Chokio Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.
LaVern Kenneth Asmus, son of Walter and Hazel (Miles) Asmus, was born May 7, 1922 in Chokio, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. On May 14, 1944, he was united in marriage to Lila Wollin. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Morris and LaVern worked as a carpenter. When he retired in 1977, he and Lila became building caretakers. Over the years, this profession took them too many different towns in Minnesota. In 1992, LaVern and Lila settled in St. Cloud, where they have continued to live since that time.
LaVern died on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.
He is survived by his wife: Lila Asmus of St. Cloud; one son: Gary (Vicki) Asmus of Apple Valley; two daughters: Diann Richards of Arlington and Valerie Lutz of St. Cloud; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Delroy (Loretta) Asmus of Morris and Norman Asmus of Minneapolis and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lesley, Stan and Floyd Asmus and three sisters: Dene Froelig, Bertha Hennen and Darlene Hickey.
Pallbearers for the service are: Audrey McNally, Tina Wilson, Maria Fischer, Heather Eisenschenk, Richard Asmus, Clyde Roberts and Brian Lutz. Rita Lambert will serve as organist for the service with Holly Giese serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
A memorial service will also be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
