Lenny Sibul, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020, from non-COVID-19 complications associated with COPD.
A remembrance and celebration for Lenny will be postponed until gathering is allowed and her friends and family can come together and celebrate her rich life.
Lenny was born on October 1, 1943 in Onaway, Michigan to Norman and Penny Hanson. She attended college at Wayne State University in Detroit, where she received her degree in Social Work and met and married her husband of 55 years, Ray Sibul. After a short career as a social worker in Detroit, Lenny followed Ray to Morris, MN, where she spent the remaining 53 years of her life, continuing her role as care provider and counselor as a home health aide and school bus driver for Morris Area Schools.
Lenny was a life-long learner with many passions and pursuits. Always involved with multiple projects and community involvement, she said that with so much to do and learn in life no one should ever be bored. As one of the first female bus drivers and a local leader with the League of Women voters, Lenny was a positive role model for women and girls throughout her life.
Lenny loved road trips and traveling abroad. Her global travel adventures brought her to Egypt, China, Australia, Turkey, Switzerland and beyond. She drove her van to visit family in Michigan, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, and Colorado, and to explore other parts of the country. When she could no longer drive these distances, she rode along as a passenger, and lived vicariously through the travels of her children and grandchildren.
Lenny was a talented gardener who grew an amazing array of flowers and vegetables. She was an avid card player, reader, crossword-puzzler, birder, and seamstress. Her quilts were works of art and adorn the beds of family and friends around the country. She adored her children and grandchildren and inspired them to live their lives to their fullest and pursue their dreams.
Lenny’s generosity, strong will, and adventurous spirit live on through her sisters, daughter, sons, grandchildren, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her rare combination of thoughtfulness and practicality will truly be missed.
Lenny is survived by her husband, Ray Sibul; children Jenny (Peter) Weisberg, Matt (Amy) Sibul, William Sibul; grandchildren Walter and Henry Weisberg, Ruby and Anna Sibul, and Harry Sibul; sisters Maureen Reisner, Becky (Steve) Witt, and Jacky (Jeff) Insalaco. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Shirley Hanson and beloved brother, William Hanson.
