Leonard Eich

Funeral services for Leonard Eich of Morris, MN will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Morris. Military rites will be provided by the Morris American Legion, VFW and AmVets.

Leonard Eich, son of Emil and Anna (Olson) Eich, was born February 9, 1927 in Morris, Minnesota. He was baptized on March 6, 1927 by Fr. Georgius Rauch and confirmed on June 14, 1942 by Fr. Fearon at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Leonard attended and graduated from Morris High School. On June 21, 1945, Leonard enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in Post World War II. He received an honorable discharge on November 28, 1946. Following his discharge, Leonard returned to Morris where he worked as a carpenter at Home Builders Lumber Yard for a few years. On June 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Peggy Lou Edson in the Assumption Catholic Church Parsonage by Father Fearon. He later formed a partnership with Russ Jenson, and they ran their own lumber yard and construction company called Eich & Jenson. In 1963, Leonard went into business as a building contractor with his brother Don, their business was known as Eich Bros. Inc. They were in business together in Morris for 37 years before retiring. After retiring, Leonard continued working as a house designer. Peggy died on April 9, 1997. Leonard married Eldora Jenson on March 19, 1998, and they have made their home in Morris since that time.

Leonard was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he served on the building committee. He was also a member of the Morris Chamber of Commerce and the Planning Commission. He served on the airport advisory board and the West Wind Village Board. Wood carving was a special relaxing time for Leonard. He enjoyed hunting with his sons in the north woods, snowmobiling and fishing. Leonard was also very active as a RC Flying Instructor.

Leonard died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.

He is survived by his wife: Eldora Eich of Morris; four children: Carol Heins of Alexandria, Dorothy Anderson of Chokio, Stephan (Mary Ann) Eich of St. Bonifacius and Don (Jean) Eich of Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one brother: Donald Eich of Morris. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Peggy Lou Eich; his parents and two half sisters: Mina Wiley and Dorothy Dyson.

Serving as pallbearers for the service are: Arnie Stein, Jack Ascheman, Mike Ascheman, Dan Pagle, Ed Larson and Jim McRoberts. Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Patrick Burke, Jim Overland, Leonard's entire family and Eldora's family. Linda and Ken Hodgson will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
