Leonard Erickson

Funeral services for Leonard Erickson of Starbuck, MN will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Indherred Lutheran Cemetery.
Leonard Eugene Erickson, son of Arnold and Hannah (Rosten) Erickson, was born July 3, 1921 in Minnewaska Township in Pope County, Minnesota, where he attended school until the 8th grade. Following his schooling, he helped on the family farm and hired out to work with Ralph Steward, building roads and worked for Harold Korsted, Albert Jackson and at the Starbuck Elevator. In 1957, he was united in marriage to Irene Helen Harriet Schumacher at Indherred Lutheran Church by Rev. G.O. Forde. To this union two daughters were born, Candice and Karen. Leonard purchased the Margaret Haag farm and for many years farmed it with his brother, Ellsworth. Leonard moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck in 2008, where he continued to live until the time of his death.
Leonard was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. He was also a member of Farmers Union, Minnewaska Township Board for ten years and Farmers Ag. Association. He was actively involved with the Pleasant Hill Troop 4-H Club for ten years. He enjoyed horses, hunting, music, pool, bowling and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Leonard was a very loving and kind soul. He enjoyed all people and was very generous and always had some candy or a quarter for the little kids. He had great faith in the Lord and was prepared for his journey to heaven. His favorite saying was "May the Good Lord take a liking to you!"
Leonard died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN. He lived to reach the age of 91 years.
He is survived by one daughter: Karen Jean Erickson of Starbuck; two brothers: Arther Erickson of Milan and Harry (Ada) Erickson of Starbuck; one sister: Gladys Sather of Starbuck; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Erickson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his wife, Irene; daughter, Candice Irene (3 days old); his parents; sister, Ida Martens; brother, Ellsworth Erickson; two brothers-in-law, Lt. Col. Louie Martens and Paul Sather; nephew, Michael Erickson; great-nephew, Nolan Erickson and sister-in-law, Helen Erickson.
Pallbearers for the service are: Kevin Erickson, Nathan Erickson, Neal Erickson, Andy Aaberg, Scott Smedstad and Gary Johnsrud. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard's nieces, nephews, family and friends. Amy VanZee will serve as organist for the service with Sylvia Gunderson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
