Leroy Diers

Funeral services for Leroy Diers of Annandale, MN formerly of Morris will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, with Rev. Dell Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Time of Sharing at 6:30 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in Chokio Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chokio.

Leroy Melvin Diers was born in Graceville, Minnesota in January 22, 1931 and grew up on a farm south of Chokio, the youngest son of Bill and Clara (Vogt) Diers. He was a gifted musician and creative mind who rode a Harley, played piano and accordion, and built contraptions to solve problems. He directed the church choir in the Chokio Lutheran Church, sang in the choir at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris, served as Chairman of the Stevens County Republican Party for many years, and worked for the Stevens County Highway Department.

Leroy graduated from Chokio High School in 1949 and attended Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis in 1950 to study auto mechanics. Leroy moved to Portland, Oregon after trade school, then returned to Chokio to work as a mechanic. Leroy married Pearl Fedder of Hancock in 1959. The couple moved to Morris in 1966 where they built their own house and raised four children. He later moved to Annandale in 2003 where he enjoyed his retirement living near his youngest son and family.

Leroy died on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, MN. He lived to reach 84 years.

Leroy is survived by: his former wife Pearl; his sister Loraine; his daughter Jill (Holslin) and sons Christian and Peter; his daughter Joan Straw and her children Lyle and Robyn; his son and daughter-in-law Dean and Kim (Greiner) Diers and sons Andrew and Aaron (Tracy Herrmann) and his great-grandson Nathan; and his son and daughter-in-law Carter and Kobie (Merz) Diers and their children Benjamin and Madeline. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Otto and Martin.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
