LeRoy Benjamin Holzheimer, 92, formerly of Holloway, MN, passed away on March 5, 2012 at the West Wind Village in Morris, MN.
LeRoy was born to Benjamin and Lena (Bassow) Holzheimer on August 13, 1919 near Holloway, MN, where he grew up and attended rural school District 99. On March 27, 1949 LeRoy was united in marriage to Rhoda Hawkins in Minneapolis, MN. He was a loving Husband, devoted Father to Warren, and proud Grandfather and Great-Grandfather.
LeRoy began farming with his father at an early age, initially using a team of horses to work the land. Through the years with the help of his son, the farm became more modern with the use of tractors. They also raised many livestock, including beef cattle and hogs and was always fond of animals, especially horses and dogs (most of which were named "Trixie"). LeRoy always enjoyed being outdoors and loved all hunting seasons which he shared with his son, grandson, and friends. He will always be remembered by his family as the man who taught them how to drive tractor, go hunting, biking, swinging, visiting or telling stories, and above all was a kind, caring, and gentle man.
He is survived by his wife, Rhoda, Morris, MN; one son, Warren (Marsha) Holzheimer, Holloway, MN; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Stacy (Steve) Link and Grady and Keaton, Casselton, ND, Michele (Dustin) Hillman and Elizabeth, Kindred, ND, Daniel (Staci) Holzheimer and baby Holzheimer due in July, Bismarck, ND, and Katie Holzheimer, Holloway, MN and brother-in-law: CD Adkins of Arizona. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Edna Larson and Dorothy Mertens, and infant brother; two brothers-in-law, Bill Mertens and William Larson; and one sister-in-law, Eurdora Adkins.
LeRoy was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township where he was baptized, confirmed (in 1933), and held many positions within the church. The Celebration of his life will be held there on Saturday March 10, 2012 at 2pm with a visitation an hour prior to the service. The Reverend Donald Klatt will be officiating with Organist Pat McGeary accompanying.
