Leslie Richard Bertram, son of Herman and Tena (Bartell) Bertram, was born December 13, 1927 in Macsville Township in Grant County, Minnesota. He attended country school, before graduating from Herman High School in 1945. Following his schooling, Les began farming with his father. On July 21, 1951, he was united in marriage to Darlene Struck in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Swan Lake Township. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Rendsville Township, near Donnelly until 1961, when they moved west of Herman. In 1977, Les and Darlene purchased the D & L Service Station in Herman. The couple purchased the house in Herman and moved to "Bertram Lane" as he liked to call it in January, 2011.

Les was a member of the Eden Reformed Church in Herman and he served on the Grant County Fair Board. Les enjoyed golfing, playing cards and bowling; working at the campgrounds at the State Fair and taking his grandkids to the rodeo. Les's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember him by his smile and sense of humor. A very special place for Les was the Bertram cabin on upper Pomme de Terre Lake near Elbow Lake, MN.

Les died on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home in Herman, MN. He lived to reach the age of 86 years.

He is survived by his wife: Darlene Bertram of Herman; four sons: Mike Bertram (Colleen Anderson) of Herman, Danny Bertram of Campo, CA, Rick Bertram of Fergus Falls and Brent (Molly) Bertram of Herman; one daughter: Diana Bertram (her husband: Bobby Wimberly) of Herman; two brothers: Rudy Bertram of Herman and Ted (Darlene) Bertram of Hewitt; brother-in-law: Harold Hilbrand of Barrett; four sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Bertram of Graceville, Marvis Bertram of Rosholt, SD, Roberta Bertram of Verndale and Pearl Struck of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
