Lester Eide

Lester O. Eide, son of Oluf and Mathea (Peterson) Eide, was born August 22, 1928 in Peever, South Dakota, where he was baptized on September 30, 1928 at the Peever Lutheran Church by Reverend N. J. Holm. He was confirmed on May 16, 1943 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, Minnesota by Reverend R. R. Syndal. Lester grew up in the Peever area and attended various country schools, graduating on May 22, 1942. Lester was drafted into the United States Army on April 12, 1951. He served as a Turret Artillery Mechanic in the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He obtained the rank of Corporal, before his honorable discharge on April 2, 1953.





Following his discharge, Lester returned to the Cyrus, MN area, where he was united in marriage to Gladys Mithun Benson on November 25, 1953 in Summit, South Dakota by Reverend Carl Ness. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Cyrus, where they raised their three children. Lester worked for various farmers and as a maintenance man in several service stations. From 1971 to 1986, Lester worked for Regal Homes in Montevideo, MN as a maintenance worker. In 1986, he went to work for various farmers in the Montevideo area until the time of his death.





Lester died on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Minnesota Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, having lived to reach the age of 78 years.





He is survived by his wife: Gladys Eide of Montevideo; one son: LeRoy (Gail) Eide of Elbow Lake; one daughter: Laverne Jacob of Rice; five grandchildren: Dennis Eide, Amy Lauer, Travis Jacob, Laurel Eide and Josh Eide; five great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Austin, Ian, Ashley and Kaitlin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son: Raymond Benson; four brothers: Oren, Palmer, Iver and Joseph Eide and one sister: Gudrun Steffenson.





Pallbearers for the service are: Oren Eide, Jr, Tony Mithun, Bernie Mithun, Dennis Eide, Travis Jacob and Martin Steffenson. Honorary pallbearers are: Amy Lauer, Laurel Eide and Josh Eide. Diane Hanse will serve as organist for the service with Joel Hanse serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
