Funeral services for Lillian Halbakken of Morris, MN will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Paul Erdal will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Frog Lake Cemetery, rural Alberta.
Lillian Cecelia Halbakken was born February 21, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota and was adopted at three months old to Lars and Olga Ranum of Pelican Rapids. Lillian was baptized and confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran church in Pelican Rapids. Lillian grew up and received her education in the Pelican Rapids area, graduation from Pelican Rapids High School in 1944. In 1945, Lillian was united in marriage to Edward S. Kollar. Following their marriage, Lillian and Ed moved to Morris, where Ed was employed at Rudniki Motors and raised their daughter Loretta.
On January 9, 1963, Lillian was united in marriage to Marvin Elmer Halbakken of Pelican Rapids. Lillian held many jobs over the years from her youth thru her retirement. Some of her jobs over the years included in the early 1960's, she was manager of Gold Bond in Fargo. Between the 1970s and 1990's, she held various jobs such as distributer of the St. Paul Pioneer Press Newspaper, bus driver for Morris Head Start and Morris Public Schools, Co-owner of the Shell Café, Avon Representative, Green Thumb employee at the Morris Senior Center and Villa of St. Francis Nursing Home.
Lillian was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris and a 51 year member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, playing cards and playing piano. Lillian especially enjoyed shopping and socializing. She loved visiting with friends and family. Lillian moved to Legacy Living Home in February, 2011, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Lillian died on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Marie Halbakken (fiancé: Ronnie Tatge) of Morris; two grandchildren: Jacque (Matt) Stallman of Denver, CO, Bill (Amanda) Fogle of Parker, CO; two great-grandchildren: Joslyn and Jordan Stallman of Denver, CO; special friends: Loretta Ritter and her family, Lois Koehntop, Jim and Lou Eystad and her extended family at Legacy Living. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Loretta Kollar Fogle; husband: Edward Kollar and Marvin Halbakken.
Pallbearers for the service are: Don Ritter, Harland Fogle, Mike Mithun, Dan Halbakken, Mark Gunderson and Jim Eystad. Honorary pallbearers are all those who called Lillian friend. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service and Patty Nelson will serve as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
