Lillian Roberts

Lillian Belle Carbert, daughter of Arthur and Stella (Bruner) Carbert, was born July 11, 1911 in Delhi, Minnesota. When Lillian was nine, her family moved to Hodges Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where she attended school at District #8. She later attended Morris High School, graduating in 1930, before attending the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris for a short time while completing a business course. On February 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Floyd Roberts at her parent’s farm home in Hodges Township. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed east of Morris until the spring of 1952. They then moved to Morris, where Lillian began working in housekeeping at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital for the next 29 years. She also cleaned at the Medical Clinic for many years and worked at the Red Dot Café. Floyd died on April 29, 1985, and Lillian has continued to live in Morris since that time. Most recently, she has made her home at the West Wind Village in Morris.

Lillian was a member of Federated Church in Morris and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Starbuck. She enjoyed playing the piano, organ and harmonica. She also liked to travel, bake, cook and always looked forward to visits with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lillian died on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 97 years.

She is survived by two daughters: Harriet (Joe) Rinkenberger of Morris and Lois (Edward) Koehl of Hancock; two sons: Harvey (Marsha) Roberts of Kirkland, WA and Herbert (Marie) Roberts of Sammamish, WA; 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Charlotte Hanson; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; her parents; three sisters: Edith Stewart, Martha Anderson and Alice Dvorak and four brothers: Charles, Fred, Samuel and Ralph Carbert.

Pallbearers for the service are all of Lillian’s Grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are all of Lillian’s Granddaughters. Cheryl Rempel will serve as organist for the service with Roger Blair serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
