Funeral services for Linda Gjerdingen of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on June 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Dr. Joel Rolf officiating. The visitation will be held Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Rolling Forks Cemetery in Rolling Forks Township, Minnesota.
Linda May Stealy, daughter of Howard and Dortha (Witt) Stealy, was born on June 7, 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Waterloo, Iowa, and graduated high school from Cedar Falls. She attended Gates Business College before moving to the Minneapolis area and working as an administrative assistant. Linda was united in marriage to Donald Gjerdingen on October 5, 1968, in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple made their home in Mayer, Minnesota, where Linda enjoyed being a stay at home mom for Ross and Jory. After her sons were grown, she then began working as the office manager at Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. In 2009, Linda and Don retired and settled at their farm near Starbuck.
While living in Mayer, Linda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown where she taught Sunday school and served as president of the Ladies Aid. After moving to Starbuck, she became a member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in 2010. Linda enjoyed gardening, baking, camping, boating, and going for walks. Linda will be remembered as a “Prayer Warrior”; her many hours reading the Bible and praying each day was a cherished time.
Linda died on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She lived to 74 years.
She is survived by her husband: Donald Gjerdingen, Starbuck, MN; two sons: Ross (Heather) Gjerdingen, Howard Lake, MN, and Jory Gjerdingen, Anoka, MN; three grandchildren: Bailee and Morgan Gjerdingen, Howard Lake, MN; and Odin Gjerdingen, Anoka, MN; one brother: Jerry (Judi) Stealy, Cedar Fall, IA; her mother-in-law: Doris Gjerdingen, Willmar, MN; and one nephew: David Stealy, Washington D.C. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, one nephew; Jeff Stealy, and her father-in-law, Harris Gjerdingen.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given in Linda’s name to the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck.
