Lloyd Alvin Brandt, son of Lawrence and Anna (Hansen) Brandt, was born July 18, 1920 in Rendsville Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He was baptized in 1920 and confirmed in 1934. Lloyd attended Country School, before continuing his education at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, graduating in 1939. Following his schooling, he began farming east of Donnelly with his dad, retiring in 1969. He then began working as a custodian at the University of Minnesota Morris. On March 6, 1976, he was united in marriage to Thelma Oudal Kloos at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly. The couple made their home on Thelma's farm and he continued to work at the UMM. Lloyd loved Thelma's daughters as his own and adopted them as well as all the other kids at church. Thelma died on March 19, 1989 and Lloyd retired from the University the same year. He continued to live on the farm where he kept the lawn well groomed and was known for his collection of white painted wheels that surrounded the farm yard. He liked mowing because it made him feel closer to Thelma.

Lloyd was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and sang with the men's quartet and the church choir. Lloyd loved attending parades in Glenwood, Morris and especially the Threshing Bee in Donnelly. Lloyd was a member of the Sons of Norway for over 25 years and he would pull their float with his jeep in many parades around Minnesota. He loved taking trips to Norway and other places. Lloyd enjoyed reading, especially Bible scriptures and his collection of Western books by Louis Lamour. Lloyd especially enjoyed spending time with his step-daughters and their children.
