Memorial services for Lloyd Olson, of Lowry, will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. There will be limited seating at the church building; but additional seating and a livestream of the service will be available at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck. Reverend. Dr. Joel Rolf will be officiating and burial will be at Minnewaska Lutheran Cemetery.

While maintaining social distancing guidelines, we are now able to accommodate gatherings of up to 250 people. The use of face masks by attendees is required, and we will continue taking the necessary steps to keep our facility clean. For those who prefer or require continued precautions, webcasting and/or livestreaming is available in most situations.
Lloyd Marlin Olson was the last of ten children born to Albert and Annie (Halvorson) Olson on August 4, 1938 in White Bear Lake Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He grew up in the Starbuck-Lowry area where he attended Country School District #32 through the 8th grade. Lloyd was baptized on October 24, 1938 and confirmed on May 11, 1952 in the Lutheran faith at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Lloyd was a proud serviceman, enlisting into the United States Army in March of 1956 and serving until his honorable discharge in August of 1964. Following his military service, he began farming and continued for the next 45 years, raising livestock and grain. He also spent many years doing custom harvesting for local farmers, heading down south to combine wheat. Lloyd was married and had three children: Marlin, Dawn and Nancy. On July 2, 1998, he was united in marriage to Beverly Wooley. They continued to make their home near Lowry. After his retirement, they moved to Arizona for a time before returning to Pope County. Beverly preceded Lloyd in death on March 16, 2016.
Lloyd was a lifelong member of Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck where he was an active member, especially the Men’s breakfast group. Some of his hobbies included: fishing, car races, traveling, tinkering and fixing things – including his last project, a 1929 John Deere Unstyled D; and harvesting wheat. Most importantly, Lloyd cherished the time that was spent with his family.
Lloyd died on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Fargo, North Dakota; he was 82 years old.
He is survived by his children: Marlin (Pam) Olson of Spring Creek, NV, Dawn (Darwin Johnson) Olson of Starbuck, and Nancy (Randy) Marquardt of Lowry; step children :Teresa (Burt) Allgood of Buffalo, WY, Dianna MaCullough of Valley Village, CA, Tracie (Kyle) Jackson of California City, CA, Daniel (Sandy) Mundt of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Gerald (Trecia) Wilson of Sierra Vista, AZ; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Chlian of Starbuck; and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; his granddaughter, Candice Hirsch; and siblings: Alice Gardner, Orville Olson, Irene Holen, Isabelle Steen, Albin Olson, Orva Steen, Arline Nygaard and Bert Olson.
