The funeral for Lloyd Thielke, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Carlton Andersen officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran (Horton Township) Cemetery, Morris.
Lloyd Edward Thielke was born September 22, 1930, in Horton Township of Stevens County to Melvin and Florence (Weiss) Thielke. He was baptized into Christ October 12, 1930, and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township. He grew up on the family farm, attended District 41, the country school across the road from the home farm, and played baseball with many of the neighbors his age in Murphy's pasture. He then attended the West Central School of Agriculture and graduated in 1947. Lloyd lived with his uncle and aunt, Ray and Mable Osborne working briefly around the Rock Rapids, Iowa area walking the gas lines. He came back from Rock Rapids when he was needed on the family farm and continued to farm the rest of his life.
Lloyd was united in marriage to Marion Jean Piepenburg on October 12, 1952. Lloyd and Marion moved to the Piepenburg farm, and Lloyd farmed alongside his father-in-law and father, eventually buying the Piepenburg farm. Lloyd and Marion's marriage was blessed with 52 years and seven children. Lloyd was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church where he enjoyed serving in several roles including as a trustee and head usher. He also was a very active member of the Lutheran Layman's League (LLL) where he enjoyed serving and made many friends through the LLL. Lloyd and Marion retired to Morris in December, 2000. Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family, helping wherever there was a need, playing cards, traveling, working for his church, visiting with his neighbors and friends, and farming.
Lloyd died on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Prairie Senior Cottages, with support of the Douglas County Hospice in Alexandria, Minnesota. He was 85 years old.
Lloyd is survived by his children: Neil (Ruth) Thielke, Morris, MN, Mark (Katy) Thielke, Lakeland, FL, Anne (Roger) Fehr, Jefferson, SD, Beth (Dave) Savela, Morris, MN, Jon Thielke, Minneapolis, MN, Nancy Thielke, Kansas City, MO and Steven Thielke, Morris, MN; 17 grandchildren: Charity (Alex) La Fontaine, Colleen Thielke, Nathan (Elisabeth) Fehr, Bethany (Paul) Preus, Rebekah (Jacob) Dandy, Leah (Andrew) Preus; Rachel (Jeremy) Costello, Masha Fehr, Maya Fehr, Roman Fehr, Bryce Savela, Neala Savela, Forrest Thielke, Austin Thielke, Hailey Thielke, Christian Thielke, and Noah Thielke; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters: Phyllis (Loren) Harste, Holloway, MN James (Lynne) Thielke, Edmond, OK, Melvin (Marilyn) Thielke, Enid, OK and Karen (Richard) Van Aalsburg, Lee Summit, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion in 2005; his parents, Melvin Thielke in 1996 and Florence Thielke in 2000; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Shadrack Thielke; one brother-in-law, Norlan Gades and one nephew, Ward Van Aalsburg.
