Lois "Cookie" Bertha Berning
The funeral for Lois "Cookie" Bertha Berning of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Celebrant for the funeral mass will be Father Bob Kieffer. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Morris.
Lois Klinkhammer, daughter of William and Elizabeth Klinkhammer was born on January 30, 1928 at Adrian, MN. She was the only daughter and oldest of 4 children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Adrian Catholic Church. She attended and graduated from St. Adrian Catholic School in Adrian, MN. After graduating she went to work at the local grocery store in the bakery. On September 1, 1949 she married Frank Berning of Adrian. In 1953 they moved to a farm near Hancock, and farmed until 1987. At that time they retired from farming, Lois then began working at SCMC in the kitchen, and relocated to Morris where she lived until her death. She retired from SCMC in 1999, Lois also lost her husband in 1999.
She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed activities like fishing, snowmobiling, cards and puzzles. She loved watching her kids/grandkids playing sports. The Twins and Vikings were her favorite teams. In her later years she enjoyed reading recipe books, and trying the recipes. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season as she made candy for all the kids and grandkids.
Lois passed away on Saturday July 2, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 83 years old.
Lois is survived by her 4 children, Bev (Roger) Jacobson, Blomkest, Don Berning, Lake Bronson, Ron (Jackie) Berning, Morris, Jeff (Linda) Berning, Edgerton; 6 grandsons, David, Doug, Derek, Tanner, Jerid, and Jesse Berning; 2 granddaughters, Dianne (Berning) Parker and Chynna Berning; 6 great-grandchildren; one brother Ray (Lois) Klinkhammer; and 3 sister in-laws, Margaret Berning, Alvina Berning and Deanna Klinkhammer. She was preceeded in death by her husband, parents, and 2 brothers George & Paul Klinkhammer.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters. Holly Giese will be soloist and Ditto Hennen will be pianist for the service.
