Loretta Joyce Hoffart “Jo” was born on September 7, 1932, in Meadow Grove, Nebraska, to Ernest and Florence (Smith) Werner. Jo was baptized and confirmed in her Lutheran faith in Meadow Grove. She also received her education in Meadow Grove, graduating with the high school class of 1950. Through mutual friends, Jo was introduced to Robert Keith Hoffart. The two began dating and were married in Meadow Grove on June 4, 1950. To this union, three children were born. Jo cared for her husband, children, and their home. Keith’s career managing grain elevators moved them around Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota, settling in Morris, Minnesota. Jo held various jobs, including, BonJo’s, a café, and as a private housekeeper. Keith preceded Jo in death in 2015, she remained in Morris in an apartment until moving into Legacy Assisted Living – she was the 3rd resident to move in when it opened! After her Alzheimer’s progressed, Jo was needing more care and she became a resident of Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood in August of 2022 until the time of her death.
Jo was a member of First Lutheran Church, the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed growing flowers, fishing and cooking the fish she caught! Jo and her family traveled and spent many nights camping in the great outdoors. She was a gracious host, she showed great hospitality and loved baking – especially chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies – she baked thousands and thousands over the years! Most importantly, Jo cherished the time that she was able to spend with her family. She loved the ‘little ones’ and always made a point to ask about them!
Jo died peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood; she was 90 years old.
