Lorna Brunkow

Lorna Marie Wade, daughter of Einar and Ellen (Johnson) Wade, was born July 29, 1928 in Pepperton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. Lorna grew up in the Donnelly area, where she was confirmed in 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She attended and graduated from Alberta High School in 1946. On November 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Melvin Brunkow at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donnelly. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Brunkow family farm until 1948, when they purchased a farm Southwest of Herman in Eldorado Township. They were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where Lorna was active in the Ladies Aid. Lorna and Melvin moved to Herman in January of 1979, where they have continued to live since that time.

Lorna and Melvin loved to go dancing on Saturday nights and they loved to go camping. She always looked forward to her grandkids visiting, especially when they would come over after school.

Lorna died on Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 80 years.

She is survived by her husband: Melvin Brunkow of Herman; three children: Gary (Janelle) Brunkow of Herman, Wayne (Helen) Brunkow of Herman and Sharon (Jeff) Severance of Herman; eight grandchildren: Sara (Mark) Williams and their children, Elise and Cole, Scott (LaRee) Brunkow and their children, Annika and Brody, Katie Brunkow, Matthew (Carolina) Brunkow, Bradley (Kayla) Brunkow, Lisa (Dane) Mitteness, Kristi Severance and Jenna Severance; four great-grandchildren: Elise and Cole Williams and Annika and Brody Brunkow; one brother: Harlan (Gloria) Wade of St. Paul; one sister: Pauline Smith of Morris and brother-in-law: Lester Huebner of Morris and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Gladys Huebner; one infant brother: Warren Wade and brother-in-law: Don Smith.

Pallbearers for the service are Lorna’s grandchildren: Sara Williams, Scott Brunkow, Katie Brunkow, Matthew Brunkow, Bradley Brunkow, Lisa Mitteness, Kristi Severance and Jenna Severance. Linda Volker will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
