Lorraine Carstens

June 6, 1923 — January 5, 2014

The funeral for Lorraine Carstens, formerly of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris with Reverend Mark Tiefel officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris from 5 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Lorraine Rose Erdman, daughter of William and Olga (Senholtz) Erdman was born June 6, 1923 near Kidder, South Dakota. She grew up in the Hancock, Minnesota area with her siblings; Freda, Bud and Rollo. Lorraine attended country school and enjoyed riding horseback. During her high school days, Lorraine lived with Mrs. Warner and graduated from Hancock High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Carstens on October 6, 1941. The couple lived with Walter's folks before renting a farm near Danvers, Minnesota. In 1946, they purchased a farm in Hodges Township east of Morris. The couple was blessed with four children: Elinor, Dennis, Marvel and Richard. Lorraine and Walter retired from farming in 1976 and continued to live on the farm until 1994, when they moved to Morris. Walter died on May 1, 1998. Lorraine continued to live in Morris before entering Grand Arbor in Alexandria, Minnesota in October of 2011.

She was a charter member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morris. Lorraine enjoyed sewing, gardening, music and bird watching. She will be remembered for her good home cooked meals. Lorraine's greatest loves were her family and faith.

Lorraine died on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, having reached the age of 90 years.

She is lovingly survived by: her daughter and family: Elinor (Pierre) Gbedey, Madison, WI and Catherine Gbedey. Her daughter-in-law and family: Barb Carstens, Alexandria, MN, Lori (Alexandr) Lipchanskiy and Jacob; Chris Carstens; Cindy (Doug) Paulson, Mikkel and Abbigale. Her daughter and family: Marvel (Marlo) Steinhorst, Alexandria, MN, Becky (Lonnie) Bode, Annie and Tollie; Jessica (Tim) Larson, Ryan and Seth. Her son and family: Richard (Trudy) Carstens, Alexandria, MN, David (Elizabeth), Abrianna and Hannah; Steven (Elisa), Devyn, Alexander and Carter; Crystal (Jon) Madsen, Grace and Taylor; sister-in-law, Ivy Erdman, Monticello, MN. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Dennis, grandson, Ricky Carstens and siblings, Freda, Bud and Rollo.
