Lucille Anderson

Lucille Karen Marie Christensen, daughter of August and Agnes (Nielsen) Christensen, was born July 3, 1920 in Seneca, Iowa. She was baptized in 1920 by Reverend Karl Nielsen and confirmed on April 8, 1934 by Reverend Stub at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted, Iowa. At a young age, Lucille’s family moved to Ringsted, Iowa, where she grew up and attended county school in Emmet County. She graduated from Ringsted High School in 1938. On April 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Manly Anderson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ringsted. To this union four children were born, Arnold, Roger, Manly, Jr and Diane. Following their marriage the couple farmed near Ringsted until 1950, when they purchased a farm south of Alberta in Synnes Township. Lucille and Manly worked side by side, farming, raising grain, cattle, hogs and poultry. They retired from farming in 1972 but continued to live on the farm. Manly died on February 12, 1991. Lucille remained on the farm until 1996, when she moved to Morris, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Lucille was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, held several offices and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Synnes Tuesday Club. When Lucille was 13 years old, she purchased her first set of salt and pepper shakers, a rooster and a hen. From then on she was hooked. She purchased a few herself and relatives would give them on special occasions. When she and Manly moved to Alberta she had 30 sets to display and she would always pick up another set whenever they took a trip. She has sets from Denmark, Germany, Australia, France, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. With family and friends adding to her collection, she has over 900 sets of salt and pepper shakers. She also collected Angels, which she was very proud of. Lucille enjoyed crocheting, reading and watching the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves on TV. Lucille loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends.

Lucille died on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 89 years.

She is survived by three children: Arnold (Annette) Anderson of Gillette, WY, Roger “Speed” (Lila) Anderson of Alberta and Diane (Andrew) Geisler of Richfield; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; adopted family: Keith and Karen Stroman of Alberta and their sons and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Manly Jr; her parents and one sister: Arlene Halverson.

Pallbearers for the service are: Keith Stroman, Lyle Hettver, David J. Anderson, Kermit Stahn, Gary Coverdale and George Burnett. Honorary pallbearers are Lucille's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson. Karen Stahn will serve as organist for the service with the Trinity Lutheran Choir providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
