LuVerne Adeline Dalva, daughter of Marie (Hanson) and Olaf Dalva, was born June 9, 1923, at the family farm in White Bear Lake Township, 2 ½ miles west of Starbuck, MN. She was baptized on July 22nd, 1923 at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck by Pastor M. Casper Johnshoy, and confirmed by him as well on March 21st, 1937. She attended country school in Pope County District #41 (just down the road from the farm) through 8th Grade. She graduated as Class Valedictorian from Starbuck High School in 1941, and then attended the Glenwood Teacher's Training Department (normal training) at Glenwood High School in Glenwood, MN. After completing her training, she taught country school over the next six years in Districts #41, #74 and #32 in rural Starbuck.

She was united in marriage to Boyd Bredeson on June 4th, 1949, at Fron by Pastor Oscar Rem. Following their marriage, they made their home on a Bredeson farm on the south side of Lake Minnewaska for eighteen years, during which their three children were born. In 1967, they moved to a farm place just east of the Fron Cemetery, where they lived for eleven years. Along with working on the farm, LuVerne worked as a teacher's aide in the Starbuck Elementary School from 1967 to 1973.

In 1973, LuVerne and Boyd purchased the Starbuck Variety Store and operated it at the original location for 3 years, then purchased the "Farmer's Store" building and moved the business to that location, where they operated the business until selling it in 1982 when they "retired" the first time. In 1984, they purchased the Osakis Variety Store, which they ran for 8 years. In 1991, together with their son Curt, LuVerne and Boyd reopened the Starbuck store, ran both locations for a year plus, and then sold the Osakis location and had just the Starbuck location until 1999.

In June of 1999, LuVerne and Boyd celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary and 25 years in the variety store business. Boyd passed away suddenly in October of that year, and a decision was reached by the family to sell out the stock and fixtures and to sell the building.

LuVerne was a lifelong member of the Fron Lutheran Church Congregation, where she taught Sunday School for over twenty years, sang in the choir, attended Bible study, Circle, and was active in her work group, the Wedding Circle and the Sewing Circle for many years. She was also a charter member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home Auxiliary (1960), participated in countless fundraisers for the auxiliary, served as a group chairperson and continued membership through the present day. LuVerne was a member of the Starwaska Woman's Club for over twenty years, and was a long-time member of the Minnewaska District Hospital Auxiliary and the Starbuck Area Chamber of Commerce. She was also active in the Homemakers' Club for many years, delivered meals on wheels, and served as a den mother for Cub Scouts.

LuVerne enjoyed many things in life… good and great music, puzzles, attending plays, crocheting, reading, baking goodies ( she was an expert baker), Tuesday morning coffee outings with neighbors for many years, talking on the telephone, and especially being with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Peter) Soli of Albert Lea, MN, son Curt of Starbuck, granddaughters Anna (Neal) Solmeyer of Washington, D.C., Meg (Spencer Niebuhr) Soli of Minneapolis, grandson Jon (Lorelei Peterson) Soli of Durham, NC, great-granddaughter Mira Solmeyer, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd, in 1999, son Gary in 1974, parents Marie and Olaf Dalva, brother Orvin Dalva, four sisters and brothers-in-law; Lucille and Knute Klevann, Mildred and Oliver Stadsvold, Ruth (Bredeson) and Carl Evensvold, Esther (Bredeson) and Engebret Vold, three nieces and one nephew, and many close friends.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of arrangements.
