Funeral services for LuVerne Pieske, of Fargo, North Dakota, formerly of Alberta, Minnesota, will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, Minnesota, with Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris, Minnesota.
LuVerne Lawrence Pieske, son of Lawrence and Ethel (Gode) Pieske, was born February 18, 1931, in Burnstown Township, Brown County, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. Following his schooling, LuVerne helped on the family farm. He was drafted to the United States Army; stationed in Bramberg, Germany, serving in the Korean War, where he was awarded the American Occupational Medal and National Defense Service Medal. LuVerne was also a part of the Automatic Rifle Team that competed in the Prix General Le Clerc Shooting Competition. Following his honorable discharge, LuVerne returned to Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Joyce Schnobrich on November 16, 1954 at Stately Lutheran Church in rural Sanborn. The couple moved near Donnelly, Minnesota where they farmed a short time and later purchased a farm near Alberta, where they continued to farm until retiring in 2013. The Pieske’s milked cows for over 20 years, raised small grains and corn, raised beef cattle and hogs, and had goats, chickens, geese and turkeys. Joyce passed away May 13, 2017. LuVerne later moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where he continued to live until the time of his passing.
LuVerne was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Morris and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta. He was an active member of the Morris American Legion, V.F.W. and AmVets, serving as Commander of both the V.F.W. and AmVets. He loved fishing, helping Joyce with her gardening, and tinkering in his shop. He also enjoyed listening to polka music, dancing and playing the concertina.
LuVerne passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, North Dakota. He was 92 years old.
He is survived by two children: Curtis (Missy) Pieske of Wadena and Karen (Art) Tierney of Pillager; two grandchildren: Lincoln and Mack Pieske; two honorary grandchildren: Carolee and Caitlyn Berneking; one brother: DeLoss Pieske of Lake Wilson and one sister: LaDonna Stock of Granite Falls; He was preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Pieske; his parents; infant brother: Lawrence Pieske and brother: ElRoy Pieske.
