Funeral services for Lyla Cin of Morris will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church near Morris. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Pepperton Methodist Cemetery near Alberta.
Lyla Blanch Trost, daughter of Edward and Anna (Laager) Trost, was born October 7, 1919 in Everglade Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. She grew up near Nevis, where she attended school until she was a sophomore. Her family then moved to a farm north and west of Alberta. Lyla was a captain of the Alberta Girl's basketball team. She graduated from Alberta High School. After graduation, Lyla worked as a housekeeper for families in Morris. On October 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Merlyn Cin in Morris. Following their marriage, the couple farmed and raised their children in the Stevens County area, before settling in Pepperton Township. Merlyn died July 28, 1995 and Lyla continued to live on the farm with her son Robert until the time of her death.
Lyla's faith was very important to her. She was an active member of the Pepperton Methodist Church and attended the Akeley Methodist Church during the summers. She was a volunteer for the ARC. From 1986 to 1995, the family spent summers at the Happy Days Resort by Nevis, where Lyla was an expert fisherwoman. Lyla enjoyed traveling with Merlyn, gardening, cooking, canning and singing. Lyla highly valued time spent with her family, relatives and friends.
Lyla died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, at the age of 94 years.
She is survived by her four sons: Ronald (Sharon) Cin of Glenwood, LuDean (June) Cin of Glyndon, Jerry (Wanda) Cin of Morris and Robert Cin of Alberta; one daughter: Julene (Wayne) Maanum of Morris; eight grandchildren: Wayde Cin, Ryan Cin, Melissa Rouse, Angela Schlieper, Timothy Cin, Erica Johnson, LeAnn Bjerken and Maria Cin; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Merlyn Cin; her parents: Edward & Anna Trost and two sisters: Mildred Sandwick and Pearl Moser.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
