Lyla Mae Anderson, daughter of Howe and Martha (Carbert) Anderson, was born July 19, 1929 in Browns Valley, Minnesota, where she was baptized on February 9, 1930 by Reverend Joseph S. Goehring at the Presbyterian Church. When Lyla was six years old, her family moved to Herman, where she began her schooling. In 1943, they moved to Hancock, where Lyla graduated Valedictorian from Hancock High School. Following graduation, Lyla began working for the Registrar of Deeds Office for three years. On May 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Lembcke at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris by Father Arthur Hoppe. The couple made their home and farmed near Morris for three years, then moved 11 miles north of Morris. Lawrence died on January 1, 1980. Lyla continued to live on the farm and worked as a Nurses Aide at the Morris Hospital from 1980 to 1982, when she moved into town and began working in the Physical Therapy Department at the Morris Hospital. On May 14, 1988, she was united in marriage to Harold Jarvis in Osakis, MN by Joseph S. Holt. The couple made their home in Morris, where Lyla continued to work at the hospital until 1996. Harold died on March 19, 1999. Lyla has continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.
Lyla was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where she belonged to the Ladies Guild. She was also a long time member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing, golfing, baking, walking with friends, caregiving and rollerskating. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lyla died on Monday, May 8, 2006 at her daughter, Christine's home in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 76 years.
She is survived by her seven children: Jane (Gordon) Harstad of Morris, Judith (Arlie) Lauridsen of Brockton, MT, Christine (Tone) Schmidt of Morris, Jerry (Dawn) Lembcke of Morris, Daniel (Michelle) Lembcke of Fergus Falls, Arden (Dawn) Lembcke of Andover and Jeffrey (JoAnn) Lembcke of St. Cloud; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harold (JoAnn) Anderson of Morris and Erwin (Jean) Anderson of Hancock and one sister: Arletta (Bill) Myers of Hancock. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents and one grandchild.
Pallbearers for the service are: John Anderson, Bob Stevenson, Ed Lembcke, Larry Swenson, Royce Anderson and David Anderson. Penny Rhoda will serve as organist for the service with Roger Blair serving as soloist and Lynn Schulz providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
