Lyle Jerome Anderson was born on July 26, 1932, the second son, to Herman and Emma (Vigdahl) Anderson at their home in New Prairie Township. Lyle was baptized on September 11, 1932, and confirmed on April 30, 1947, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Starbuck, Minnesota. Lyle and his family lived on different farm sites in Pope County where Lyle attended country school until the 8th grade. During childbirth with her third child; Lyle’s mother died. After this, Lyle learned to cook, clean, sew, and to take care of his self at a young age, his skill and habits, followed him throughout his life. After his schooling, Lyle farmed with his Dad. While out one night at the Forada Pavilion, Lyle met Lois Miller, the two began dating and were married on May 18, 1963, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home on a farm north of Cyrus and welcomed one daughter, Nancy. Lyle farmed with his father until the farm was sold and they moved into Cyrus. At that time, Lyle began working for Kenny Johnsrud Construction, then Morris Blacktop, and finally Morris Seal Coat. He would also drive truck for Engebretson Disposal when needed. In 2011, they moved from their home to an apartment in Cyrus, Lois’ health declined, and Lyle retired from working to care for her. Lois died in September of 2011. Lyle continued to live in Cyrus until April of 2020, when he became a resident of West Wind Village in Morris where he lived until his death.
Lyle was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck and a member of the Morris Eagle’s. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing – both in a boat and on the shore from ‘bull shit corner’ at Lake Emily. Lyle spent many hours tinkering, taking things apart to fix them or to find out how they worked; and if they couldn’t be fixed, he would blow them up. Lyle played cards and dice, and would venture to the Morris Eagles on Saturdays for bingo and to have a couple beers. He loved animals, especially dogs, and always made sure that the bird feeders and corn cobs were plentiful for the birds and squirrels. Mostly, Lyle liked afternoon adventures with Jeff and Nancy, cruising the countryside and every back road checking the crops and watching the animals.
Lyle died peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the West Wind Village in Morris. He was 91 years old.
Lyle is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jeff Miller of Morris; niece, Karen Anderson of Hoffman; special friends: Eileen Sachs and Brenda Skare; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
