Lyle Melvin Hansen, son of Melvin and Alice (Tomalla) Hansen, was born May 21, 1941 in
Morris
,
Minnesota
. He was baptized and confirmed at
Peace
Lutheran
Church
. Lyle grew up in the Cyrus area and attended school, graduating from
Cyrus
High School
in 1959. Lyle continued his education at NDSU in
Fargo
,
North Dakota
. On December 16, 1961, he was united in marriage to Linda Mae Johnson at the Nora Church in Kensington. To this union two daughters were born, Sherry and Jeanne. Lyle worked at the USDA Soils Lab in Morris for 37 years while also doing carpentry work. Following his retirement, he continued to do carpentry work. Lyle lived five miles west of Cyrus in a home that he helped build, until the time his death. Lyle lived to reach the age of 68 years.
Lyle was a member and served on the church council at
Trinity
Lutheran
Church
in Cyrus. He served for 13 years on the Cyrus School Board and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Lyle enjoyed playing cards, ice fishing, hunting, watching NASCAR, sharing his woodworking talents with his children and grandchildren, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending the numerous activities of his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters: Sherry (Kevin) Wohlers of Morris and Jeanne (Scott) Knutson of Eden Prairie; five grandchildren: Kayla (Aaron) Erdahl, Matt Wohlers, Kyle Knutson, Karly Knutson and Tyler Knutson and two brothers: Clarence (Joyce) Hansen of Cyrus and Don Hansen of Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers are Lyle’s grandchildren. Karl Retzlaff will serve as organist for the service, with Kyle Knutson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
