Madelyn Victoria Collins, was born November 11, 1921 in Todd County, Minnesota to Leslie and Lena (Forbord) Collins. She attended and graduated from Osakis High School in 1939. Following her schooling, Madelyn moved to Hollywood, California, where she worked as a waitress. In 1941, she returned to Minnesota to help her aunt and uncle with housekeeping. Madelyn married Maurice T. Knutson on March 12, 1944 at East Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Langhei Township, where they began farming in 1950 on the family farm. Madelyn helped around the farm and managed the household while raising three boys. She also worked for several years as a seamstress at Fingerhut. During her retirement years, Madelyn opened The Brown Bag, a consignment store, with her girlfriends. Later in life, Madelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and living on the farm with Maurice.

Madelyn was an active, longtime member of East Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a part of the ladies aide. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Homemakers Group. Madelyn liked to fish with Maurice and square dance in their earlier years, gardening, cooking and baking. She enjoyed anything that let her express her creative talents: painting, hardanger, crocheting, rosemaling, and sewing. Madelyn was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need whether it was sewing patches, bring them over a dish for supper, or giving the occasional haircut.

Madelyn died on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, Minnesota.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Pam), Wayne (Cynthia Roberts) and Keith (Sandy); grandchildren, Karl (Jen), Ingrid (Aaron Youngdahl), Leah (Ryan) Anderson, Carrie (Joe Henneberg), Jake (Kelsy Solvie), Erica, Chad (Kelsey) and Todd; great grandchildren, Chloe, Levi, Henrik, Alma, Lauren, Saul, Clara, Carsyn, Franklin, Elwin and Harper; brother, Eugene (Becky) Collins; sisters, Vonnie Brustad, Annabelle Engebretson and Donna Mae (Ted) Larson and niece, Fran (LeRoy) Ras.
