Funeral services for Margaret Tomlinson of Morris, Minnesota will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:30 pm at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Reverend Dell Sanderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Margaret Elizabeth Schmitz, daughter of John and Agnes (Petersen) Schmitz, was born November 8, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up in Minneapolis, where she attended the Miles Standish Grade School, before attending and graduating from South High School. She then attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, receiving her bachelor's degree in Medical Technology. In 1943, Margaret moved to Fargo, ND, where she worked at St. Luke's Hospital & Clinics as a lab technician supervisor. On July 29, 1944, she was united in marriage to J. Robert Tomlinson at her aunt's home. The couple made their home in Devils Lake, ND for a short time before purchasing the Ford Garage in Cavalier, ND. They lived in Cavalier until 1950, when they moved to Morris, MN, where they owned and operated Tomlinson Motor Company, the local Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Dealership. J. Robert died in November 20, 1967. The Tomlinson family continued to operate the business in Morris until selling it in 1970. Margaret then began working as a lab technician at the USDA North Central Soil Conservation Research Lab in Morris, where she remained until her retirement. She had continued to live in Morris, most recently in Skyview Court, until entering the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN in July of this year.
Some of Margaret's favorite hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and traveling. She had also been active in the Morris Students Club for over 50 years. Most of all, Margaret loved spending time with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren.
Margaret passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.
She is survived by her six children: Linda (Jim) Thomas of Dent, Bruce (Lynda) Tomlinson of Alexandria, Brad (Sharon Gades) Tomlinson of Morris, Boyd (Barb) Tomlinson of Kerkhoven, Lucy (Lee) Johnson of Ham Lake and Lori (Tom) Ushio of Aurora, CO; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one sister, Lorraine (Bob) Lindgren of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one sister, Mary Jane Canfield.
Pallbearers for the service are Margaret's Grandsons and Granddaughters. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
