Funeral services for Marie Odegaard of Starbuck will be held Friday, October 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Marie Caroline Lingen, daughter of Carl and Minnie (Bakko) Lingen, was born May 19, 1924 in Starbuck, Minnesota, where she was baptized on June 8, 1924 and confirmed on April 24, 1938 at St. John's Lutheran Church by Reverend G. O. Forde. Marie grew up in the Starbuck area, attending District #92 Country School thru the 8th grade and later graduating from Starbuck High School. On October 20, 1942, she was united in marriage to Sewald Odegaard at St. John's Lutheran Church in Starbuck by Rev. G. O. Forde. The couple lived in Starbuck, where Marie worked for Lutheran Social Services and later she would become the site manager for the Senior Nutrition Program, retiring after 20 years. Sewald died on July 17, 1993 and Marie has continued to live in Starbuck since that time.
Marie was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck, where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Marie loved to welcome people to the neighborhood and she enjoyed baking, especially donuts.
Marie died on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her home in Starbuck. She lived to reach the age of 88 years old.
She is survived by seven children: Helen Sauld of Texas, Sylvia (Mark) Durand of Eagan, Stanley (Leann) Odegaard of Starbuck, Harlan Odegaard of Eden Valley, Betty (Ray) Kill of Donnelly, Cathy (Armando) Barrera of Bloomington and Chris Odegaard of Richfield; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Sewald; one daughter, Marlys Susan Olson; siblings, Gerhard Lingen, Blanche Remington, Olive Forbord, Ida Forbord and Clifford Lingen; brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service are: Scott Walker, Brent Durand, Benjamin Odegaard, Tracy Zozaya, Scott Swanson and Mike Zozaya. Honorary pallbearers are all of Marie's children, their spouses and their families.
