Memorial services for Marilyn Quitney of Starbuck, MN will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran rural Starbuck.
Marilyn Ann Hoverud was born on November 11, 1934, to Clarence and Thea Olive (Vinge) Hoverud on her home farm in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized, confirmed and married at West Zion Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school at the Wayside School, District 51, and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1952. She worked at various jobs after graduation until she found her passion and calling as a nursing assistant. She worked at the Minnewaska Hospital in Starbuck for more than 40 years.
She was united in marriage with LeRoy "Bud" Quitney on September 6, 1958 and they recently celebrated their 58th anniversary. They were blessed with four children - Randy, Marla, Jill, and Ann, 12 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition, they parented Mike, Dewey, and Diane Hoverud after their parents' deaths.
Marilyn enjoyed family and friends immensely. She went out of her way to be sure everyone was welcomed and fed. She was a member of the Snoose Street Singers, the Legion Auxiliary, the Starbuck Beautification Committee, and many activities at Fron Lutheran Church and in the Starbuck community. She served as a Senior Companion in her retirement. She was an excellent baker and cook and will always be remembered for her meatballs and chocolate chip cookies along with other individual favorites.
Marilyn died Friday, September 30, 2016 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN. She was 81 years old.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Bud of Starbuck, children Randy (Kristi) Quitney, Litchfield, Marla Watson of Starbuck, Jill (Mike) Troen of Glenwood, and Ann (Glenn) Miller of Brooten. She is also survived by her grandchildren – Nathan (Kristie) Watson, Ryan (Emily) Quitney, Katie (Luke) Okland, Karly Watson, Kelsey (Eric) Schultz, MacKenzie Watson, Peyton Miller, Andrew Troen, Joshua Troen, Jayden Miller, Hunter Troen and Mia Troen, and great-grandchildren Beckett and Madden Okland, and Bentley Schultz, and baby Quitney due in January. She is also survived by sister Corrine (and Joe) Hoium, Starbuck, and sister in law, Helen Audrey Hoverud, Starbuck. Surviving her as well are nephews Mike (Paula) Hoverud, Dewey (DeAnn) Hoverud, and niece Diane (Chris) Buckingham. In addition, she leaves in-laws David and Pat Quitney, Ruthie and Paul McIver, Alice Olson, Paul and Jane Quitney, and Helen and Mel Hoium. She will also be missed by many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers, Alvin and Odell and by sisters-in-law, Ardis Hoverud, Dorothy Smith, and Janet Taft. Blessed be her memory.
