Memorial services for Marjorie Mesenbrink of Alberta, Minnesota will be Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1:00 p.m at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, MN, with Reverends Jack Baumgarn and Robert Jarvis officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Horton Township.
Marjorie Laura Thurmer, daughter of Otto and Emma (Gunderson) Thurmer, was born on September 16, 1931 in Donnelly Township near Donnelly, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended country school. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. In 1943, their family moved to Morris and Marjorie graduated from Morris High School in 1950. Following her schooling, Marjorie went to work for Dr. Watzke’s Eye Clinic, where she would straighten and adjust glasses. Later she went to work at Gamble’s Department Store as a clerk. She was united in marriage to Charles William Mesenbrink on December 30, 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple made their home on the Mesenbrink family farm near Hancock, where they farmed and raised their children. In 1996, Charles retired from farming. In 2009, they moved to Skyview Court in Morris. Charles passed away November 7, 2010. Marjorie continued to live in Morris for a few years, before moving to a farm near Alberta, where she continued to live until the time of her death.
Marjorie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She also bought many books for the church library. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Pheasants Forever. Marjorie enjoyed drawing, painting, bible archeology, ancient history, reading, driving the lawn mower, checking on farmers, visiting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, friends and special dog Willie.
Marjorie died on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, Minnesota. She lived to 86 years.
She is survived by three daughters: Linda Rethwisch of Detroit Lakes, Deborah (Wendel) Marotzke of Hancock and Wendy (Roger) Witt of Chokio; sister-in-law: Rosie Thurmer of Shakopee; brother-in-law: Dean Paulson of Glenwood; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents; son: Chuck Mesenbrink; grandson: Charles Bellanger; great-grandson: Jack Ritter; sons-in-law: Donavon Bellanger and David Rethwisch.
