Funeral services for Marjorie Roiland of Chokio, will be Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Reverend Erik Rundquist officiating. A visitation will be Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with a prayer service to follow. Reviewal will start one hour prior to service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at 2:30 pm at the Bellingham Cemetery.
Marjorie Virginia Brehmer, was born on August 8, 1936, in Bellingham, MN, to William and Hilda (Loeschke) Brehmer. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bellingham. She grew up and attended school in Bellingham. While in high school, she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1954. After graduation, Marjorie worked at a dental clinic in Madison, MN. Marjorie loved to dance and that is where she met her future husband, Donald Roiland. They were united in marriage on September 6, 1959. They made their home in Morris for a short time and then moved to Chokio, where they raised their family.
Marjorie was a wonderful homemaker, and as a mother of five children it was a full-time job. She was a sports enthusiast and adored watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting activities. She took great pleasure in making homemade meals for the family. Family meant everything to Marjorie, especially the annual family vacations, holidays, and birthdays.
Don and Marjorie shared a full life together and celebrated 52 years of marriage before Don’s death in 2011. She accompanied Don on work trips and made many friends and memories along the way. They enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, and loved to dance, mainly the waltz. Marjorie died peacefully at the Courage Cottage in Morris on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the age of 86.
She is survived by her five children: Greg (Karen) Roiland of Maple Plain, Bruce (Christine) Roiland of Elk River, Teresa (Jeff) Scheldorf of Chokio, Jeff (Jane) Roiland of Carroll, Iowa, and Virginia (Scott) Kurtzweg of Bemidji; 15 grandchildren: Megan (Zach) Stencel of Watertown, Kayla (Derek) Doran of Hanover, Nathan Roiland of Plymouth, Isabel and William Roiland of Elk River, Haley Scheldorf of Pierz, Andrew Scheldorf of Ithaca, NY, Kirsten Scheldorf (Alex Daugherty) of Donnelly, Colten Scheldorf of Chokio, Alexander, Jacob, and Allyson Roiland of Carroll, Iowa, Sydney Kurtzweg of Fargo, ND, Hattie and Jocelyn Kurtzweg of Bemidji; three great-grandchildren: Josslyn and Camden Stencel, and Emersyn Doran; two sisters: Bernice Josephson of New Richland and Arlene (John) Pedersen of Chippewa Falls, WI; sister-in-law, Ione Brehmer of Milbank, SD; and other extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Roiland; grandchildren, Joseph and Katelyn Roiland; brother, Ralph Brehmer, sister, Annabelle and her husband, Keith Christensen; and brother-in-law Roger Josephson; and niece Mary Krause.
