The funeral for Marlys Vera Longnecker, of Appleton, Minnesota will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, with Reverend Michelle R. Rowell officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church in Appleton and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be at the Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton.
Marlys Vera Koosman, daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Riba) Koosman was born on April 7, 1929 in Holloway, Minnesota, where she grew up and graduated from Holloway High School. She was united in marriage to Arnold Longnecker on August 26, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Holloway. Through this union five children were born. The couple farmed together until they sold the farm in 1974, when they moved to Appleton. After moving to Appleton, Marlys worked as a Avon representative, and at the Speedway Garden Restaurant as a waitress, before working for 25 years at the Appleton Nursing Home, before retiring. Arnold died on December 2, 2006. Marlys continued to live in Appleton until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Holloway, where she was active in the ladies aid. Marlys also was a member of the Ridgerunners snowmobile club. She enjoyed embroidery, needlework, gardening, baking and cooking. Most of all, Marlys loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marlys died on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Appleton Municipal Hospital in Appleton. She was 83 years old.
She is survived by five children: Douglas (Jane Bratsch) Longnecker, St. Cloud, MN, Lin LaLond, Shakopee, MN, Dean (Anita) Longnecker, Ortonville, MN, Rick Longnecker, Appleton, and Debbie (David) Henneberg, Appleton, MN; 12 grandchildren, Eric Burggaff, Minnetonka, Ashlie LeGrande, Minneapolis, MN, Brittney Gill, Maple Grove, MN, Jessica Hanson, Shakopee, MN, Jackie Phetchanto, Eagan, MN, Isaiah Longnecker, Ortonville, MN, Joshua Longnecker, St. Cloud, MN, Rachel Longnecker, Fargo, ND, Brennen Longnecker, BreAnn Longnecker and Chad Longnecker, all of Appleton, MN, and Kayla Henneberg, Fargo, ND; 14 great-grandchildren, Colin, Nora, Keaton, Seyla, Myles, Morgan, Quinn, Noah, Avery, Owen, Ellis, Cali, Nolan and Josie. Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, her parents, one brother, Dennis Koosman, two daughters-in-law, Cheryl Longnecker and Michelle Lewis, and one sister-in-law, Avis Putizer.
