Martha Hood

The funeral for Martha C. Hood, of Morris, will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Paul Erdal officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home, at Morris, and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.

Martha Caroline Oberg, daughter of Anton and Cornellia (Erickson) Oberg was born on November 3, 1927 at Bismarck, North Dakota. The family lived in Bismarck until 1933, when they moved to Herman, Minnesota. At the age of 11, they moved to Chokio, where Martha attended school. After her schooling, Martha worked as a housekeeper and baby sitter. She was united in marriage to Warren Hood on September 3, 1948 at Morris. The couple lived on a farm in Swanlake Township until 1949, when they moved into Morris. For 8 years, Martha was a full time housewife and mother. In 1957, she began working at the Pylin Drive-In, where she was a cook. In 1969, Martha was hired as a cook at the Morris Public School, where she continued to work until her retirement in 1992. Warren died on October 25, 2006. Martha continued to live in Morris until the time of her death.

Martha was a member of First Lutheran Church. She liked to bake, garden, sew, and travel. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Martha will be remembered most for her pies, carmel rolls, and turnovers. Her greatest love however, was her family; she was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Martha died on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 84 years old.

She is survived by two daughters, Marleen (Herb) Nelson, Donnelly, MN and Avis Johnson, Dalton, MN; two brothers, Harry (Arlene) Oberg, Alexandria, MN and John Oberg, Hoffman, MN; four grandchildren, Andrea (Mike) Maanum, Jason Dalum, Darren (Ellie) Nelson and Lori (Justin) Anderson; and five great-grandchildren, Dylan & Madison Maanum, Owen & Evan Nelson, and Taylor Anderson. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Eddie and Gordon Oberg.

In lieu of flowers, family wishes memorial be sent to the Stevens County Humane Society.
