The memorial service for Marvin Harold Grammentz of Morris, Minnesota, will be held on Wednesday, February, 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, with Reverend Ginger Beck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Marvin Harold Grammentz, son of August and Amanda (Stage) Grammentz was born on August 19, 1925 on the family farm in Brown County near Cobden, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended country school. Following his schooling, Marvin began farming with his father until he was 38 years old. On January 18, 1964, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Benson in Glenwood, Minnesota. Shortly after they were married, the couple moved to Winsted where Marvin began working as an electrician at Sterner Lighting Company, where he continued to work for the next 23 years. After he retired, the couple relocated to Cleveland, Tennessee for three years before settling once again in the Morris area in 1995, where he continued to live until the time of his death.
Marvin was a member of First Congregational Church in Hancock. He enjoyed going to flea markets, traveling, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. In his early years he enjoyed dancing and listening to old time music. Marvin will be remembered as a man who enjoyed life and spending time with his family and friends.
Marvin died on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 87 years old.
He is survived by his wife: Marilyn Grammentz of Morris; two sons: Mike Steen and Marlyn "Chip" Grammentz both of Sauk Rapids; one daughter: Victoria Vogel of Cleveland, TN; two sisters: Leola Snell of Taylor Mills, KY and Antonette (Leslie) Delp of Willmar; three sisters-in-law: Doreen Grammentz of Willmar, Rosie Grammentz and Carol Grammentz both of Glenwood; three brothers-in-law: Gary (Sylvia) Eckel, Kenny (Wanda) Benson and Allen (Sue) Benson all of Hancock; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Stacie Steen; three brothers: Darwin, Dennis and Ole; three sisters: Bertha, Juva, and Velma and four brothers-in-law: Herman, Wayne, Curtis and Don.
Honorary pallbearers are all who called Marvin friend. Lois Strei will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
