Marvin Meyer

Marvin Ernest Meyer, son of Ernest and Helen (Peters) Meyer, was born July 8, 1929 on the home farm in Carver County, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm near Chaska, Minnesota and attended country school. Marv enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served until 1954, when he received an honorable discharge. On September 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jean Splettstoesser in Shakopee, Minnesota.
Before going to Brown Institute he played in country western bands throughout the upper Midwest. He played on TV at Garden City, SD with the C-X Rangers. Our land-lady was so proud to have him as a renter, she referred to him as the smiley one. He had a beautiful smile that was genuine. He loved people and always wanted them to feel comfortable and was a true entertainer. Marv worked in radio until retirement; he called himself the working girls best friend.
Marv enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar in several bands, and later in the church band. He enjoyed gardening and the beauty of God's Creation.
Marv moved to Heaven on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Meadow Lane Healthcare Center in Benson, having lived to reach the age of 77 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Meyer of Benson; two daughters: Linda (Tim) Gallagher of Benson and Sarah (Tim) Hoffman of Benson; one son: Kris Meyer of Benson; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Milfred (Susie) Moldenhauer of St. Bonifacious and Earl (Sue) Meyer of Chaska; two sisters: Evelyn Moldenhauer Swain of Michigan and Elaine (Harvey) Drew of Delano. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Florence Ortloff; one niece: JoAnn Moldenhauer and one nephew: Gary Ortloff.
Pallbearers for the service are: Jay Webster, Jayson Christoffer, Mike Vandenberg, Walter Young, Andrew Hoffman, and Maynard Meyer. Honorary pallbearers are: Chet Lee, Hanley Reigstad, Vern Munson, Wayne Amundson, Ray Scheffler, Bob Haase and Don Lenz. Mary Webster will serve as pianist for the service with granddaughter, Amee Vandenberg and her husband Mike providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
