Funeral services for Marvin Schulz of Morris will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Morris. Reverend Carlton Anderson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Marvin Otto Schulz, son of William and Louise (Thielke) Schulz, was born March 19, 1923 in Moyer Township in Swift County, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school in the Holloway and Appleton areas. Following his schooling, he worked on the family farm, before enlisting in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War as an Army Technical Sargent with 762 Light Engineer Equipment company as a truck driver. He received an honorable discharge in 1947 and returned to Swift County. On November 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Alvina Zinda in Appleton. Following their marriage, Marvin and Alvina lived in the Morris area. Marvin worked at the University of Minnesota Morris for many years. When Marvin retired, he and Alvina moved to Hancock and wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona. They later moved back to Morris. Alvina died on December 15, 2006. Marvin moved to the Barrett Care Center in October, 2013 and in March, 2014 he moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
Marvin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Morris, the V.F.W and the Morris American Legion. He enjoyed farming, gardening, camping and woodworking and in later years doing jigsaw puzzles. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.
Marvin died on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 91 years.
He is survived by: two sons: David (Judy) Schulz of Hancock and Larry (Kim) Schulz of Brooten; one daughter: Gail (Einer) Hoffren of Carson City, NV; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one sister: Allowese Becker of Morris. He was preceded in death by his wife; one son: Marvin Schulz, Jr; his parents; two brothers: Roland and William Schulz and one sister: Rita Kaehler.
Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
