Memorial services for Maxine Nelson of Chokio, MN will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Reverend Gloria Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris. Memorials preferred to MN, ND, SD Chapter of ALS Association.
Maxine Violet Winter, daughter of Max and Augusta (Gertgens) Winter was born May 10, 1924 in Graceville, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN. Maxine began her schooling in Johnson and in 1942 graduated from Graceville High School. Following her schooling, she moved to Washington, DC, where she worked for the FBI. On November 19, 1943, she was united in marriage to Albert Nelson in Minneapolis, MN. When Ervy was discharged from the Navy, the couple moved back to Chokio, where they owned and operated Nelson's Grocery Store until retiring in 1991. Albert died on May 27, 2008. Maxine continued to live in Chokio until the time of her death.
Maxine was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, Homemakers Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, reading, drawing and painting. Maxine and Ervy loved to travel all over the United States in their Air Stream Trailer. In 1967 they drove to Panama. Maxine's greatest love was spending time with her family and friends.
Maxine died on January 9, 2014 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, MN, having reached the age of 89 years.
She is survived by five children: Nancy (Dean) Boldenow, Chokio, Jon (Pat) Nelson, North Mankato, Christine (Jim) Deike, Madison Lake, Beth (Bob) Moore, Glenwood and Jay (Lynn) Nelson, Morris; twelve grandchildren: Michael (Kelly) Boldenow, Lake Elmo, MN, Gregory (Wendy) Boldenow, St. Michael, MN, Derek (Jamie) Nelson, Chanhassen, MN, Cameron Nelson, Mankato, Anna Deike, Mankato, MN, Elizabeth (Stephen) Noone, Oakdale, NY, Amy (Joel Anderson) Deike, Mankato, MN, Alison (Jamison) Winter, Redfield, SD, Jackson Moore, Minneapolis, MN, Brittany (Paul) Preimesberger, Jenna Nelson and Tate Nelson, all of Morris, MN; one sister: Catherine Thompson, Front Royal, VA; sister-in-law: DeVona Winter, Minnetonka; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother: Max Donald Winter; special cousin: Larry Rixe and brother-in-law: Curtis Thompson.
