Maynard Oswald Erickson

Memorial services for Maynard Erickson of Chokio, MN, will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio, with Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.  Burial will be at Chokio Lutheran Cemetery, Chokio, MN. 

Maynard Oswald Erickson, son of Oswald and Mabel (Mortenson) Erickson, was born August 31,1933, in Baker Township. He attended and graduated from Chokio High School. He was united in marriage to Arline Blackwelder January 9, 1951, in Richfield, MN. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2021.

At the age of 17; Maynard was awarded a full-ride scholarship to play football for the University of Minnesota; however, there was a baby on the way, fields to be farmed and a new marriage that won him over. Maynard spent his days caring for his family and his crops. When there was a free moment, he enjoyed fishing and hunting trips. Maynard and Arline also loved touring the country in their camper, visiting a total of 49 states. Maynard was a man of simple pleasures that included a cup of coffee in the morning, the newspaper with the radio on in the background and good laughs with friends and family. 

Maynard, age 90, died on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Legacy Assisted Living in Morris, MN. 

Maynard is survived by his daughter-in-law, Margo Erickson; grandchildren, Adam (Kelli) Erickson, Blake (Stephanie) Erickson and Courtney (Drew) Jessen; great-grandchildren, Elliott Erickson, Brady Erickson, Lane Landis, Callum Erickson and Noa Erickson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Arline Erickson; his sons, Douglas and Bradley Erickson; daughter, Rebecca Erickson; and great-grandson, Bryce Erickson and many other family and friends. 

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of the arrangements for Maynard.
