Meldor Lawrence Moe was born to Martin & Tina (Halvorson) Moe on June 16, 1925 in White Bear Lake Township, Starbuck MN. He was a life-time member of Indherred Lutheran Church. Rev. G.O. Forde baptized Lawrence on August 21, 1925, and later confirmed him on March 17, 1940. Lawrence received his eighth grade diploma from Pope County, MN Public Schools on June 11, 1940.
Lawrence stayed home to help on the farm and later working for Roy Erickson bulldozing in 1948 until 1950 as well as Ralph Stewart Construction until the early 50's. He worked for Star Motor & plowed snow in the winter and helping out when one of the guys was injured. In 1953 he became a dairy/grain farmer. After selling his dairy cows in 1986, he continued to grain farm and up until this past year he continued driving for farm parts as needed.
On June 12, 1952 he married Shirley Jackson at Barsness Lutheran Church, rural Glenwood with Gilbert Oppen officiating. Together the couple raised three children on the farm that Lawrence was born and raised on. The couple enjoyed visiting with friends, sitting at the local café for afternoon coffee, along with going to the Dairy Queen in the evenings. The couple was inseparable, as you could always see them on Friday evenings in Glenwood and Saturday evenings in Starbuck, back when the stores were open, sitting in their car, watching the traffic along with doing their grocery shopping.
Lawrence loved the land he worked and continued riding in the semi-truck with his son until a year ago. He enjoyed going for weekly rides with his son and daughter in law in the country checking the fields and crops out, always interested in what size the rows of the planters were and in the fall of the year he was curious to know what they were yielding and the moisture.
Lawrence had lung failure while working with some chemicals on the farm years back and suffered with pneumonia for the past few months, being a regular patient at the Stevens Community Hospital. He entered Bethany Nursing Home, Alexandria on October 9th, of this year.
Lawrence went to live with our Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria, having lived to reach 90 years of age.
Lawrence is survived by children, Michael (Susan) Moe of Starbuck; Sharilyn (Daniel) Remer of Browerville and Shollie (Clifford) Debilzen of Garfield; six grandchildren, Matthew (Toni) Moe; Mark (Katie Larson) Moe; Sharon (Ryan) Seibel; Darren (Ashley) Remer; Karen (Matthew) Hoffman; Aaron (Stephanie) Remer; Andrew Debilzen; Crystal Debilzen; Amanda Debilzen and friend Kevin Latham; nine great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
