Funeral services for Melvin Aaberg, 85, will be held at the Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Shari Opdahl will be the organist, and military rites provided by the Starbuck VFW Post 4582. Pallbearers are Shawn Aaberg, Brian Holen, Chance Bartell, Nathan Serie, Natalie Serie and Brenda Holen. Interment will be in the Fron Lutheran Cemetery.
Melvin resided at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck for a few months before his passing on April 23, 2012.
Melvin Ellsworth Aaberg was born in Starbuck, Pope County, Minnesota on January 25, 1927 to the parents, Syver and Josie Aaberg. He was baptized and confirmed at the Fron Lutheran Church and attended the Starbuck school through the 8th grade. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 and served his country in France during World War II. He married Mary Wyrick in 1949 and they made their home in Minneapolis, where he was employed by the Reserve Supply Lumber Company for 35 years. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Starbuck and Mary passed away in September of 1997. He married Carol Raasch on January 6, 2004 in Starbuck and they continued to make their home in Starbuck.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Aaberg of Starbuck; four sons, Curtis Aaberg of Starbuck, Ronald Aaberg of Minneapolis, John Aaberg of Bloomington and Randy Aaberg of White Bear Lake; two daughters, Pat Serie of Fridley and Barb (Les) Holen of Columbia Heights; three step-children, Lee (Mike) Wolf of Princeton, Nicole (Brian) Thompson of Roseau and Chance Bartell of Burnsville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; two brothers, Sanford Aaberg and Julius Aaberg; one daughter-in-law, Jean Aaberg and one great-grandson, Justin Aaberg.
