Michael Paul Jipson was born to Mary (Overturf) and Fayette Jipson on November 1, 1953 in Morris, Minnesota. He was the second youngest of six children that would grow up on the family farm near Chokio. Growing up Mike enjoyed participating in sports and working out, which would remain a lifelong passion of his. While in school, Mike participated in many sports: basketball, wrestling, track, and most of all – football. He graduated with the Chokio-Alberta class of 1972 and moved around for a short period of time before moving back to the family farm in Chokio.
In 1976, Mike met Joan Van Eps while she was working at Olson Implement and he went in to look at combines; the two started dating and were eventually married on June 14, 1980. During their 24-year marriage, three daughters were born: Sarah, Samantha, and Michelle. Mike was always a generous and kind dad and grandpa. He loved doing projects with and for his family – a favorite being a playhouse he made for the girls out of old barnwood from a neighboring farm.
Beyond his family, Mike loved his motorcycles and Dodge Charger. He loved riding and driving them, as well as washing and taking care of them. He especially enjoyed sharing his love of motorcycles with his grandsons.
In September 2017 Mike met Julie Nelson through family and the two began dating in May of 2022; and were engaged on January 11, 2023. Together, the couple liked traveling and spending time with family. Mike quickly became a part of Julie’s family and was especially loved by her grandchildren.
In 2015, Mike started experiencing heart problems which recently intensified. On November 30, 2023 Mike passed away in Morris, Minnesota; he had just turned 70 years old. Mike will always be remembered for being equally cheerful and hard working. He was chatty and loved to visit. Mike was known and loved by many; he could hold an hours-long conversation with anyone and many would say he never met a stranger.
Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his fiancé, Julie Nelson of Fargo, ND; daughters: Sarah (Megan) Fuelling of Rock Island, Illinois, Michelle (Jesse) Nonnemacher of Silver Lake, Minnesota, Samantha Bormann of Hancock; nine grandchildren: Benjamin and Andrew Oliver, Kane Fuelling, Maredith Eiler, Cynthia Nonnemacher, Sawyer Bormann, Quinn Bormann, Briar Bormann, and Bristol Bormann; siblings: Kenneth (Barbara) Jipson, Marilyn “Micki” (Richard) Carlson, Mavis (Stuart) Vogelbacher, Diane Lange, and Janis Kaufenberg (Ron Hanek); he will also be deeply missed by Julie’s family and many other relatives and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Norman Lange; and first wife, Joan Jipson.
