The funeral for Mildred J. Asmus, of Morris, will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, near Morris, with Reverend Michael Hanson officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris; and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Summit Cemetery, Morris.
Mildred J. Neitzel, daughter of Carl and Clara (Lewis) Neitzel was born on July 7, 1923 at Morris. She grew up and attended school in the Donnelly area. Mildred was united in marriage to Stanley Asmus on December 8, 1940; through this union five children were born. The couple made their home in Morris, where Mildred worked in retail sales for Henley's Shoe Store, S & L Department Store, and the Finger Hut. Upon Stanley's retirement in 1985, the couple began spending winter months in Texas. Stanley died on September 28, 2001. Mildred spent several years living at West Central Homes, before recently moving to Skyview Court.
She enjoyed baking, crocheting, fishing and playing cards. Mildred was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, and adored her grandchildren.
Mildred died on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Courage Cottage in Morris. She was 88 years old.
She is survived by two sons, James (Elva) Asmus, Springfield and Robert (Janet) Asmus, Morris; one daughter, Deborah (Roger) Eriksen, Oakdale; grandchildren: Guy Asmus, Sauk Rapids, Shannon (Carrie) Asmus, Litchfield, Justin (Jennifer) Asmus, Springfield, Gretchen (Fiance Chris Myers) Asmus, Chanhassen, Chad (Tricia) Burwell, Lonsdale, Jason (Amber) Asmus, Shoreview, Adam (Shannon) Asmus, Morris, and Jarrod (Heidi) Asmus, Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren: Seth Asmus, Sarah Asmus, Xandar Asmus, Carter Asmus, Lydia Asmus, Kalvin Burwell, Logan Burwell, Rhianna Burwell, Nick Boots, Jared Boots, Cassidy Asmus, Riley Asmus and Alex Asmus and four great-great-grandchildren: Olivia Lenarz, Addison Lenarz, Ariel Burwell and Aeris Burwell. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Jackie Asmus, one daughter, Mary Kay Asmus, her parents, one grandson, Todd Asmus, two brothers, Melvin Neitzel and Richard Neitzel, and one sister, Betty Worley.
