Funeral services for Millard "Max" Lang of Starbuck, MN will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Reverend Paul Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Fron Lutheran Cemetery near Starbuck.
Millard Arthur Lang, son of Henry and Helen (Binnebose) Lang, was born July 31, 1916 in Ruthton, Minnesota. As a young boy with seven siblings, his family moved to Buffalo Ridge and later as a teenage lived near White, South Dakota. On September 2, 1937, he was united in marriage to Marcella Christopherson in Elkton, South Dakota. To this union six children were born. Their first home was in White, SD, where they farmed. They stayed a short time in White then moved five miles east of Hendricks, Minnesota. After two years, they moved to Big Stone Lake, Minnesota for a short time, moving then to Graceville, Minnesota. After three years there, they then moved to Beardsley, Minnesota, staying there for the next three years. Next they moved south of Chokio, Minnesota, living there for seven years. In 1950, they moved to Cyrus, Minnesota in, after purchasing a farm, where they stayed for the next 28 years. When Millard became semi-retired in 1979, the couple sold their farm and bought their current home in Starbuck, Minnesota. Millard moved to the Glenwood Nursing Home in June, 2010, where he has continued to live until the time of his death.
Millard was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, trapping mink, and hunting. He was known as a handyman working on various things throughout the house. Millard had a junkyard where he liked to work on cars. He raised and sold horses throughout the years and traveled to many auction sales. He collected over 100 caps from various places. Millard enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends especially his many birthdays at the Pizza Ranch having his favorite chicken and pizza.
Millard died on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 96 years.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years: Marcella Lang of Starbuck; three sons: Curtis Lang (Lisa Anderson) of Starbuck, Larry (Pat) Lang of Starbuck and Daniel (Mary) Lang of Morris; three daughters: Janice (Donavon) Dahlgren of Starbuck, Marilyn (Wayne) Swanson of Starbuck and Bonnie (Rudy) Vergoth of Embarrass; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother: Norman (Juanita) Lang of Venetta, OR; two sisters: Alvera Sik of Hendricks and Alice Trulock of Tracy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Alvin and Donald Lang and two sisters: Mildred Gehrts and Helen Klein.
Pallbearers for the service are Millard's grandsons: Jerry Blomgren, Tim Dahlgren, Jim Dahlgren, Kory Mohs, Troy Lang and Clayton Thorne. Honorary pallbearers are: Dawn Packer, Tina Pederson, Tammy Blake, Kristi Nelson, Jodi Lang, Shawn Strawbridge and Jeff Lang. Shari Opdahl will serve as organist for the service. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
