A memorial service for Muriel Savage of Starbuck, Minnesota will be Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, Minnesota. Father Glenn Krystosek will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Muriel Honora Savage was born October 24, 1923 to Harry Guy Bolkcom and Margaret Danaher Bolkcom in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She began her life in Minneapolis and at the age of 4, after her mother's death, moved to Bloomington to live with her Aunt Nettie & Uncle Roy Cooper. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1941, then attended the University of Minnesota for two years, and then went to the Minneapolis School of Business. On June 27, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart Richard Savage. They made their home in Bloomington and had three daughters.
Muriel was active in her church and with the American Legion Auxiliary. Muriel enjoyed time with her husband and three girls while camping and fishing at the area lakes. After retiring from Bloomington Independent School District she and her husband Dick built a lake home on Rice Lake, just outside of Paynesville, where she was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. She lived in Arizona for ten years and during that time traveled with Elderhostel groups, hiked and enjoyed taking classes. She had been to every state at some point in her life and later traveled throughout Europe and parts of Southeast Asia and South America. She returned to Minnesota in 1996 to be closer to family. She so enjoyed all the activities with her children and grandchildren. Muriel was a good wife, mother and friend. She touched everyone with her kindness, consideration, gentleness, and acceptance. She was active in both the Bloomington and Paynesville Historical Societies. Other interests included cards, games, genealogy, quilting, gardening and reading. She volunteered in numerous places.
Muriel died on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her brother: Robert Bolkcom of Florida; daughters and their husbands: Vickie & Robert Bosl of Starbuck, Minnesota, Becky & Thomas LaMere of Breezy Point, Minnesota and Bonnie & Barry Martin of Brownwood, Texas; grandchildren: Aaron, Anne, Andrew, Amber, Nichole, Stacy, Stephen, Robert, Richard, Christopher and Amy; great-grandchildren: Hayley, Hannah, Jack, Nolan, Meghan, Max, Braden, Abby, Gage, Gemma, Rachel and Ai. Muriel is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Savage; brothers: Thomas, Richard, Kenneth and Wilfred Bolkcom.
