Myron Haugen

Funeral services for Myron Odell Haugen of Hancock, MN will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. Reverend Julius Miller will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Myron Odell Haugen, son of Ole and Mary (Hendrickson) Haugen, was born December 8, 1921 in Hancock, Minnesota, where he grew up and was confirmed at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church. Myron attended Hancock Public Schools. In 1942 Myron enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a medic on the front lines in England, France and Germany in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Myron returned to Hancock. On June 20, 1948, he was united in marriage to Helen Jensen at the Congregational Church in Hancock. Following their marriage, the couple continued to live in Hancock, where they owned and operated the Dx Gas Station, with Myron's brother, Gilbert.

Myron was a member of the Morris V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, singing, woodworking and fixing just about anything. Myron was well known to all the area children as the "Sucker Man" because he always carried a box of suckers while delivering fuel. Myron especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Myron died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at West Wind Village in Morris. He lived to reach the age of 92 years.

He is survived by his wife: Helen Haugen of Hancock; two daughters: Nola (Doug) Griffin of Edgerton and Jill (Doug) Benner of Edina; four grandchildren: Jason (Alicia) Davidson of Alexandria, Laura (Joe) Newhouse of Sauk Rapids, Betsy Benner of West Lafayette, IN and Michael Benner of Edina; three great-grandchildren: Cayden, Ty and Maveryk Odell (after grandpa Myron) Davidson of Alexandria; two sisters-in-law: Beverly Haugen of Hancock and Dorothy Dix of Colorado and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Maurice, Wally and Gilbert Haugen.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
