The funeral for Harriet "Myrta" Diehl, of Morris, Minnesota will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Morris, with Reverend Marlin Mohrman officiating. Visitation will be at the Pedersen Funeral Home, in Morris on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, Minnesota.
Harriet Myrta Jipson, daughter of Harry and Ysabell (Swann) Jipson was born to life on October 12, 1918 in Moneta, Iowa. She attended Trimellow Country School near Moneta, until 1935, when the family moved to a farm near Chokio, Minnesota. Myrta graduated from Chokio High School in 1937 and began working at the bakery in Chokio. Myrta was united in marriage to Russell Diehl on September 16, 1938. The couple made their home on a farm near Donnelly, Minnesota, where, they farmed until Russell's death on April 16, 1989. In 1996, Myrta moved to Morris, Minnesota where she continued to live until the time of her death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a 4-H leader and most recently volunteered at the SCMC Gift Shop. Myrta will be remembered for her hospitality, her quick wit, and her generosity. She touched the lives of many with the afghans she so lovingly crocheted. Her greatest joy, however, was the time she spent with family and friends.
Myrta was born to eternal life on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris. She was 94 years old.
She is survived by three children: Beverly Wilts, Chokio, MN, Gary (Ilo) Diehl, Little Falls, MN and Randy Diehl, Tacoma, WA; one sister, Lillian Benham, Morris, MN; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Frances VanZomeren and Belva Jipson. Myrta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Ralph, Fayette and Pete, one son-in-law, Marvin Wilts, one brother-in-law, Leo Benham and one sister-in-law, Mary Jipson.
